Tehran cineplex screens ‘Sperm Whale 2’

A new cineplex in Ekbatan, Western Tehran, has started screening the comedy drama ‘Sperm Whale 2: Roya Selection’ directed by Saman Moqaddam.

A number of cast members of the movie, including Reza Attaran, Mahnaz Afshar and Vishka Asayesh, attended the premier on Friday evening.

The director delivered a brief speech at the premier, congratulating the owner of the cineplex Manouchehr Mohammadi for the construction of the complex.

Moqaddam said “A sequel to a movie usually doesn’t turn out to be as good as the first one. However, I tell you that this is an exception to that rule.”

Paying tribute to Ali Moallem, the Iranian producer who died in March, his widow and his son were invited to the premiere.

‘Sperm Whale 2’ tells the story of Roya who had dreams of migration to the US, but finally agreed to marry Arjang Senoubar in her homeland.

Composed of ten theaters with a seating capacity of 1,400, the new cineplex is located at Megamall, a recently established shopping center in Tehran.

As Iran is going to hold a presidential election on May 19, some members of the cast and crew called upon people to take part in the voting procession.

Born in 1968 in Tehran, Moqaddam studied Cinema in Iran’s Cinema Educational Complex and began his career as an assistant director on the movie ‘The Wolf's Trail’ (1991), directed by Masoud Kimiai.

Also worked as a director consultant, writer and producer, he has directed and written several movies, including ‘Siavash’ (1998), ‘The Party’ (2000), ‘Many Happy Returns’ (2010), ‘A Simple Romance’ (2012) and ‘Sperm Whale’ (2013).
